Disaster Unemployment Assistance

This aid has been made available in response to the Presidential Disaster Declaration FEMA (DR-4701) for the affected counties, according to a published article on the official website of the TN Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

The TDLWD is accepting applications for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) from individuals who have lost employment or self-employment due to the recent severe storms, straight-line winds, and tornadoes that occurred between March 31 and April 1, 2023, in the ten approved counties. The TDLWD has set the deadline for applications for May 10, 2023.

How to Qualify for the Disaster Unemployment Assistance?

In a published article in WREG, to qualify for DUA, individuals must have applied for and used all regular unemployment benefits from any state or be ineligible for such benefits. They should have been working or scheduled to work in the disaster area or been self-employed, and can no longer work or perform services because of physical damage or destruction to the place of employment due to the disaster.

Additionally, they should establish that the work or self-employment they can no longer perform was their primary source of income. Individuals who cannot perform work or self-employment because of an injury directly resulting from the disaster can also apply. Moreover, the individuals who became the breadwinner or major support of a household due to the death of the head of the household are eligible for DUA.

How to Apply for the Disaster Unemployment Assistance?

Applications for DUA can be made at Jobs4TN.gov or by calling 1-877-813-0950 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CDT, Monday through Friday. Applicants can mail or fax their required documentation, including a Social Security number, the most recent federal income tax form or paycheck stubs, and documentation that they were working or self-employed when the disaster occurred, to 220 French Landing Nashville, TN 37243, or by fax to 615-532-3374 within 21 days from the date of the DUA application. Job seekers may also visit the American Job Centers for job search resources, job postings, and training programs.
