Benefits of the Universal Basic Income (UBI) Program
The UBI pilot program is a collaboration between Queer Works and DAP Health, two non-profits from the Coachella Valley area, and will offer 30 eligible individuals payments of $800 for 18 months. Participants must agree to take part in a study that will collect data and require survey completion, according to The U.S. Sun.
Each participant will receive counseling and social services, including enrollment in wellness programs, food security, transportation assistance, medical primary care, medical case management, mental health care, mental health case management, and housing location assistance.

Eligibility for the UBI
The funding for the program came from the city of Palm Springs, which provided $500,000. The eligibility criteria specify that participants must be clients of Queer Works or DAP Health, enrolled with one of these organizations by March 14, and live and work at least part-time in Palm Springs or spend most of their day in the area. Their income must not be more than 30% of the median of Riverside County, MARCA reports.
Participants will be selected at random, and notifications will be sent on March 30. The first monthly payment of $800 will be paid to eligible recipients on May 15. The application window will close on March 25th, and each chosen participant must agree to be a part of a study that will collect specific data and require surveys to be completed.
