Three days after a jury acquitted the rapper on a double murder charge, a Florida rapper known as “Ace NH” is accused of killing a pregnant woman in front of her young son.

After being arrested Wednesday, the suspect, Billy Bennett Adams III, 25, claimed he shot Alana Sims, 22, in self-defense.

Sims, who would have turned 23 on February 13, was five months pregnant when she was gunned down on a residential street on January 30 with her sleeping toddler inside.

On January 27, a Hillsborough County, Florida jury determined Adams acted in self-defense when he fatally murdered Trevon Albury and Daniel Thompson at a recording studio in November 2020.

“Mere days after he was acquitted of a separate crime, our homicide suspect did the unthinkable when he killed an innocent woman and her unborn child,” Interim Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said in a statement. “I hope this arrest brings closure to the victim’s family, mourning the loss of two loved ones. We are working with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure the suspect is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

The police added that the victim and suspect knew each other, and Adams was charged with first-degree murder and killing an unborn child by injuring the mother.

As per court documents, Adams claimed Sims pulled a gun on him, and he accidentally shot her during the struggle for the weapon.

Prosecutors painted Adams as a cold-blooded killer during the double murder trial, but the Tampa rapper testified and said he feared for his life during the fight at the Lutz, Florida, recording studio.

Adams was found not guilty by a jury of his peers.

In a statement, State Attorney Susan Lopez said her office disagreed with the jury but will “continue to work with the Tampa Police Department to prosecute him for this latest murder.”
