A Florida woman is suing her mother for prison time after her two young children died less than a year apart while allegedly in the care of their grandmother, one in a hot car accident and the other in an accidental drowning.

Tracey Nix, 65, was arrested and charged with aggravated manslaughter and leaving a child unsupervised in a motor vehicle in November 2022, according to court records. The charges stem from the death of 7-month-old Uriel Schock on November 1, 2022.
According to authorities, Nix left Uriel in her vehicle outside her Wauchula home after returning from lunch. According to court documents, Nix claimed she “forgot” the child was in the car.
In a heartbreaking interview this week with local station WFTS, Uriel’s father, Drew Schock, asked, “How do you forget a tiny kid.”
The documents claim that Nix informed officials that Kaila Schock asked her to monitor Uriel while she went to a hair appointment. Nix claimed that she visited a friend that morning before leaving to pick up Uriel.
The docs state that she then drove to a restaurant with her pals for lunch. Around 1:40 p.m., they departed the eatery.
According to the docs, surveillance video showed Nix placing her granddaughter in the back seat of the vehicle before driving off. Nix claimed that after traveling for about 10 minutes, she arrived at her house, parked it, and then went inside to play the piano and talk to her dog.
It wasn’t like “I was running in the house to do anything,” she said, according to the Hardee County Sheriff’s Office. I simply forgot,” the docs state.
According to the court document, Nix was sitting tight for her older grandson’s arrival so they could go out to eat. She drove the car to her backyard after 4:30 p.m. and made two cups of tea for herself and her grandson. According to the records, Nix’s husband was in the backyard when they had a 10-minute conversation.
When the grandson arrived, Nix stated that it “came across her mind” that Uriel was still in the car, according to the documents. Nix’s husband yanked the baby out and began CPR while someone dialed 911.
Uriel was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office reported that temperatures in Wauchula reached 90 degrees that day.
An autopsy revealed no evidence of injuries. Her death was ruled a homicide.
Drew Schock told WFTS that he remembers being in the parking lot outside the hospital “trying to grasp what just happened.” And that it actually… This has only happened twice in our lifetime.”
Ezra, the couple’s 16-month-old son, died in December 2021, also while in Nix’s care. According to court documents, Nix was babysitting the young boy when she fell asleep. The child got lost and drowned in a pond near her house. She was not charged in connection with the incident.
Kaila told the news station that her son died while she was six months pregnant. They also have an older child. She said she didn’t trust her mother to look after her children after Ezra died, but she believed in second chances.
“We were worried, but I adored my mother.” “And I am a daughter who wanted her mother,” she sobbed. “When I was told that Ezra’s death was an accident, a small child in me said, ‘OK. ‘Good, I get to keep my mother and grandmother.'”
Kaila stated that she was aware that her mother was taking Uriel to lunch with her friends. A sheriff’s deputy arrived at Kaila’s house hours later to deliver the heartbreaking news.
“Two children who are no longer with us,” Drew explained. “Someone has to take responsibility for that.”
Kaila told the news station, “She needs to go to prison.” “It pains me to say it as her daughter. I demand it as their mother.”
According to authorities, Nix’s carelessness resulted in the deaths of both children. Her attorney did not respond immediately to a request for comment. According to court records, a pretrial hearing has been scheduled for May 2.
