Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez declared on Friday that Leiner Miranda Lopez, who is 26 years old, is now being charged with first-degree murder in the killing of a kindergarten teacher, hindering, failing to get rid of human remains, and messing with physical evidence. He previously had been charged of disrespecting human remains before.

Lopez is still on the run after police identified him last month as a suspect.

Hernandez, a mother of three and a teacher at BelovED Charter School in Jersey City, was reported missing on February 6 and found dead the next day. An autopsy showed that she died because of the blunt-force and compressions on her neck.
