Authorities said an elementary school teacher in Florida faces multiple charges after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old student that included hookups in the classroom.
Davis Augustine Hodge Jr., 30, of Homestead, was charged Wednesday with four counts of engaging in a sex act with a minor over the age of 12 — the child was a 13-year-old former student whom he referred to as his “girlfriend,” according to police.
Hodge was a member of the school’s chess club and used his position to have a sexual relationship; the child was also a member of the club when the team met after school on Fridays at the West Homestead K-8 Center. They met at least four times, each time involving sexual contact.

Furthermore, Hodge was the student’s science teacher the previous school year when the child was 12 years old. They then communicated via social media leading to this sexual relationship.
Their Instagram conversations began about school but quickly became sexual in nature, with both the child and Hodge sending nude photos.
As per court records, he later told the child to lie to her parents for them to meet, telling her to “tell her parents she was staying after school for tutoring.”
Hodge and the child had sex three times in November and again on January 6, the last time they were alone together, added by the police.
A district spokesperson said in a press release that Miami-Dade Public Schools had begun the process of formally terminating his employment.
“Miami-Dade County Public Schools is deeply troubled by the disturbing allegations of sexual relationship with a minor, and the employee was immediately removed from the school setting,” said the statement, according to WSVN.
