South Carolina residents only have 3 weeks left to file their 2021 taxes and get a check worth up to $800.
$800 One-Time Check for South Carolina Residents, Filing Deadline is Fast Approaching
This tax rebate can be claimed by all South Carolina citizens as long as they have already filed their 2021 taxes by Feb. 15. The South Carolina Department of Revenue reports that the rebates will then be sent to the recipients in March. The amount applicants will be receiving from this rebate will depend on their tax liability. The department defines this as the amount of state income tax that a South Carolina citizen owes for the 2021 tax year.
If an applicant’s tax liability is below $800, the rebate amount will be equal to the tax liability, and those citizens whose tax liability is greater than $800 will receive exactly $800. The deadline previously set by the department was Oct. 17, 2022. Those who filed their 2021 taxes have already claimed their rebate before the end of last year.

Citizens who can claim this rebate may not receive as much as their tax liability if they have an outstanding individual income tax bill with the department. This outstanding amount will be deducted from the rebate amount that a recipient would get.
According to a published post by The Gazette, a tracker for the rebate is available online for recipients to use. Applicants will be able to check the status of their payment using this tracker. To use this, a recipient is required to have either their Social Security Number or their Individual Tax Identification Number, as well as their line 10 from their 2021 SC1040.
