Hit-And-Run In Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Police Department said that 24-year-old nursing student Elyzza Guajaca was killed when the driver of a black Chevrolet Camaro lost control and spun off the roadway, colliding with a group of spectators. Several six people were hurt and the driver ran from the scene.
An Orange County man named Dante Terrel Chapple-Young, 27 was arrested, last week, in Albuquerque New Mexico, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement. In addition to murder, he is charged with one count of hit-and-run driving resulting in death and charges also include the special allegation that he used a deadly and dangerous weapon, his vehicle statement said.
LAPD’s investigation leads them to Long Beach, Anaheim, Arizona, and eventually New Mexico. One detective compared Chapple-Young’s ability to elude police to “a game of chess.” He has waived extradition from New Mexico, officials said.
The Deadly Incident On Christmas Day
The Christmas Day crash occurred around 9 pm December 25 in the Hyde Park neighborhood during a takeover an illegal exhibition of speed and wild driving where drivers shut down intersections and perform car stunts like doughnuts, drifting, and burnouts.
The other three vehicles were racing and doing doughnuts when Chapple-Young, driving a black Chevrolet Camaro, uncontrollably crashed a tow truck being used to block the street. Moreover, Chapple-Young was caught on video dashing out of the car, and running away, Los Angeles Police Department officials said.
The impact from the crash left Guajaca stuck between a light pole and the Camaro. She was rescued and rushed to a hospital and later died from her injuries. Police are still looking for two other drivers who were doing doughnuts at the time.
