A bartender in Texas has been arrested for over-serving a man who killed an off-duty police officer and critically harmed his family after driving while intoxicated.

The Lake Worth Police Department mentioned that Cala Richardson, 26, was convicted of one count of sale to a particular person, a misdemeanor, in line with the November 7, 2021, death of Euless police Det. Alex Cervantes.

Police report that Richardson was tending bar at Fuzzy’s Taco Shop when she served Dylan Molina, 26, despite an expired license to serve alcohol.

Molina left the bar and ran a red light, killing Cervantes and injuring his wife and two children when he broadsided their vehicle, according to police.

Authorities said Molina’s blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit at the time of the crash.

Lake Worth Police Chief J.T. Manoushagian said that, like most alcohol-related severe crashes, this case had devastated an entire family. Today’s arrest fulfills a commitment they made early on — and that was thoroughly investigating this crime and holding those responsible accountable.

Molina pled guilty to the charges against him and was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Monday.

Authorities obtained unspecified evidence that Richardson over-served Molina before the crash during an investigation. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code makes it illegal to sell alcohol to someone inebriated.

After posting a $1,000 bond, Richardson was released from police custody. She is facing a year in prison and a $4,000 fine.
