Murder in La Marque

A Texas man was arrested Thursday in connection to the woman who was found dead in a newly built home in La Marque. According to police, the murderer threw the evidence away in a dumpster. The suspect in the crime was identified as Carlos Lara-Balcazar, 34. Furthermore, the dumpster is about seven minutes away from Lara-Balcazar’s home.

A warrant of arrest was issued and he was later taken into custody at his apartment on Broadway Street close to Galveston Road. After being treated for injuries he obtained during his arrest, he was brought to the Galveston Couty Sherif’s Office Jail, police said.

The Incident Of The Crime 

The victim Maria Rios, a 57-year-old Rosharon, was discovered dead Tuesday at a “bloody” scene inside a home at a construction site on Green Jay Lane, which is near the intersection of Delany Road and Texas Avenue.

Rios was contracted as a cleaner for the home of Galveston County. A property manager contacted the La Marque Police Department at about 5 p.m. CST after discovering Rios’ body in the house in La Marque, authorities said. Police said Rios owned a business that was contracted to clean the house once it was finished. They added that Rios passed in a targeted attack, but did not show how she and Lara-Balcazar knew one another.

Police also did not reveal what was discovered in the dumpster that led to the arrest of Lara-Balcazar, the television station reported. Lara-Balcazar was charged with tampering with physical evidence and was handed a bond of $40,000. Lastly, No further information has been given yet.
