Dare County announces that the property tax relief programs that would exclude the payment of property tax are now available to those Qualified Senior Citizens, disabled individuals, and disabled U.S. veterans.

Three Local Property Tax Exclusion Programs

These are the requirements set by Dare County Tax Department and specified by North Carolina General Statutes.

Dary County Seniors & Disabled Program. The age should be 65 years and older or anyone who is totally disabled. The Gross Income should be $33,800 or less during 2022, married couples, the combined income. Those qualified could get $25,000 OR up to 50% off their home value, whichever is higher. 

Dary County Tax Deferment Program. The age should be 65 years and older, and anyone who is totally and permanently disabled and those who owned or occupied the home for at least five years. The Gross Income should be $55,700 or less during 2022, married couples, the combined income. The taxes of those qualified are limited to 4% if gross income is $33,800 or less and 5% if gross income is $33,800 to $50,700.

Dary County Disabled Veterans Program. Those Veterans of any age who are totally and permanently disabled because of the fulfillment of military service or their unmarried surviving spouse. Deadline of Filing for Exclusion of Dary County Property Tax

The application filing deadline for exclusion is on June 1, 2023. To be qualified, you must own and occupy your home as the primary address as of January 1, 2023. According to the published article of Island Free Press.
