An 18-inch pipe bomb was discovered Sunday afternoon behind a Catholic church in Philadelphia, prompting the bomb squad to respond.
A passerby discovered a PVC pipe with capped ends and black powder behind a church shortly before 1:40 p.m., according to Philadelphia police.
The St. Dominic Catholic Church can be found on Frankford Avenue between Benson Street and Blakiston Lane. While a bomb squad responded, the surrounding streets were closed.
The Philadelphia police bomb squad discovered an 18-inch PVC pipe bomb with capped ends, black powder on it, and unknown powder inside it behind St. Dominic’s Cemetery on Sunday.

Alan Serge is looking for answers after a pipe bomb was found and recovered by Philadelphia police and the bomb squad within walking distance from his front porch.
According to a local news report, a passerby discovered the pipe bomb: a PVC pipe with capped ends and black powder. The pipe bomb was removed and returned to headquarters. There were no reported injuries.
Fox News Digital contacted St. Dominic’s for comment but has yet to receive a response in time for publication.
The pipe bomb was discovered just one day after Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles David O’Connell was shot and killed.
According to police, the device is being analyzed, and bomb technicians are working backward to disassemble the found pipe bomb.
