Students Arrested After TikTok Videos Simulating Mass Shootings Went Viral

Three students from a Florida public high school and a middle school were arrested for posting multiple videos on social media, specifically on Tiktok. These videos simulated a mass shooting on campus with a toy gun. The school campus was evacuated due to a bomb threat when the videos were filmed.

According to a news release from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, police arrested three students from two local public schools for sharing disturbing mass shootings videos depicting a mass school shooting on TikTok.

Two students from Florida’s Parrish Community High School were arrested on Thursday. A Buffalo Creek Middle School student was arrested on Wednesday for making a similar threatening video. With the recent horrible mass shootings, these videos are viewed as triggers that may encourage actual shootings.

Local authorities discovered one of the TikTok videos after receiving a tip from Manatee County Crime Stoppers that it was filmed during the bomb threat evacuation at Parrish Community High School on Tuesday. A School Resource deputy quickly identified the student and arrested him at his home on Thursday morning.

During a new press conference on Tuesday, officials from Manatee County Schools and the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office revealed that law enforcement spent more than three hours clearing the campus after the building was evacuated. Bomb dogs from the nearby Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office also assisted on campus.

Although no one was harmed during the incident, authorities highly discourage the public from playing pranks or jokes in certain situations like mass shootings, as this can escalate and can lead to unwanted consequences.
