Friends, family, and fellow officers gathered at the Makki Masjid Muslim Community Center for the final farewell of NYPD officer Adeed Fayaz, who died after being shot dead in a Facebook marketplace robbery.

NYPD Officer Adeed Fayaz 26-year-old was fatally shot during an attempted Facebook marketplace robbery while off duty last weekend in East New York, Brooklyn. According to the police report Fayaz and his brother-in-law met up with suspect Randy Jones 38-year-old to buy a car that the suspect had advertised on Facebook Marketplace.
Jones then allegedly pulled out a gun and tried to rob them before shooting the officer in the head. Tuesday afternoon, Fayaz succumbed to his injuries a day after Jones was taken into custody at a Rockland County motel. Police said Jones was arrested using Fayaz’s handcuffs. He now faces murder and attempted robbery charges.
Fayaz had been with the department for five years and leaves behind a wife and two young children.

The Fayaz is a married man and a father of two young children who was gunned down while off-duty just five days ago in connection with the Facebook marketplace robbery.
Although he was off-duty, Officer Fayaz was granted the solemn ritual of a line-of-duty funeral. A motorcycle escort to vacate the way for the police ambulance. Highways were shut down as the procession made its way toward Midwood, where the service took place. They carried his coffin into the cold as thousands of police officers stood at attention and saluted on Coney Island Avenue. Their grief, at times agonizing. The officer’s wife cradled an American flag as the officer’s mother cried in a river of tears.
The police commissioner said that Fayaz was a dedicated NYPD officer, up for a promotion, but Saturday night during a Facebook marketplace robbery while off-duty and with his brother-in-law, he went to buy a car in East New York. Fayaz walked into a set-up and was shot dead in an attempted robbery. Police later arrested a suspect in the shooting.
The mayor pledged to the Fayaz family the city would show its support. “To the family of Fayaz, our hearts are broken, but our arms are strong. We will hold you and lift you and show you that your son, your husband, and your father did not die in vain,” the mayor said.
