A former Police Officer in Georgia was investigated for a religious post claiming that there is no such thing as gay marriage. Then, he was pressured to resign after a possible termination for sharing his beliefs.

Jacob Kersey, 19, left earlier this month from Port Wentworth Police Department, told Fox News Digital that he got suspended on Jan. 4 after refusing to remove his Facebook post.

His superiors flagged Kersey’s post saying, “Marriage refers to Christ and the church. That’s why there’s no such thing as homosexual marriage.”

Maj. Bradwick Sherrod explained that even though there was not enough evidence to establish a violation of policies, his views might cloud his judgment in performing his duties. Moreover, he reminded Kersey that same-sex marriage is legal in Georgia and the United States.

“I didn’t do anything wrong, and they told me that,” Kersey said. This is why he wasn’t immediately terminated but instead wanted him back. But it seemed to him that this new policy they are creating will prevent him from expressing his beliefs.

He was informed that it was acceptable to post bible verses but not his interpretations, which would be difficult since he has had a podcast for seven years.

“I believe that if you compromise your integrity, religious beliefs, and faith to win, you’ve lost, and I just couldn’t do that,” he added.

Kersey stated that other officers and citizens privately expressed their support for him, and he does not blame them for not publicly defending him. Since his stay in the force, he only heard good remarks from his colleagues when it came to doing his job.

Lastly, Kersey said he is still determining his goals now that he has left the department, but he desires his story will inspire others to be firm in their beliefs.
