Elderly Couple’s Murder-Suicide Pact Ended with Fatal Shooting
Daytona Beach Police Chief, Jakari E. Young said in a press conference that the couple had a conversation about the shooting three weeks prior. The plan involved the husband letting his wife pull the trigger when he had no hope of recovery. It should have been a murder-suicide but the wife could not go through with it herself so she decided to barricade herself in.
The suspect will be facing a first-degree murder charge. Juliette Kayyem, National Security Analyst commented on how the wife was able to bring a gun into the hospital. She stated that Mrs. Gilland, being the wife of a terminally ill patient was a trusted visitor of the hospital and fewer security measures are implemented for the likes of her. This was probably how the gun was slipped into the hospital room.
