Once you submit your application, all you have to do is wait for the New York State Department of Labor to issue a Notice of Determination if it is accepted or rejected says AS. This notice will compose of the reasons for denying your claim and the steps you might take to appeal.

Most Common Reasons Why Unemployment Benefits Get Rejected

Insufficient Income

Most states require you to have worked for at least 12 months and earned a certain amount of money at the time of employment. This is one of the most important requirements in New York in order to be eligible for the benefit.

Getting Laid Off Due to Inappropriate Conduct

In New York, you would automatically be ineligible for unemployment benefits if you were fired because of bad behavior. One example of this is if you were dismissed due to willful breaking of company policy. But if you were fired due to a lack of necessary inabilities or if you were a bad match for the position, you may still be eligible for unemployment benefits.

Quitting from Your Position

In order to claim unemployment, you must be unemployed not at your own fault. This means that you may not be eligible for the benefits if no one forced you to leave your work without sufficient grounds. In New York, if you want to quit your job because of something good, your reason should be so important that it would make your co-employees wanting to quit their job want to reconsider.

Turning Down Acceptable Employment

Once you are already receiving unemployment benefits, you should not stay unemployed. Even though you are receiving a good amount from the state, you should still do your best on looking for jobs and accept a reasonable offer of employment.

To appeal the rejection may not always be the best answer but if you have prepared all the needed qualifications, it would be possible for your appeal to be granted.
