Expanded Guaranteed Income Program In Richmond, Virginia
Local report news from WTVR stated that Richmond, Virginia is expanding its guaranteed income program, with the city “about to begin” the third round. Moreover, about 40 percent of Americans reported who are not having $500 for an emergency before the pandemic.
Hence, Petula Burks with the City of Richmond said they are actively working to address that problem through a program called the guaranteed income program.
The Richmond Resilience Initiative was first established in 2020 to assist 18 families who were making less than a living wage. It focuses on providing eligible participants with $500 per month from December 2020 to December 2022.
Furthermore, The Richmond Resilience program was supported in part by the federal CARES Act, and “implementation partners” Robins Foundation and Mayors for a Guaranteed Income Program.
According to Richmond officials on the program, while it’s unclear when the expanded guaranteed income program for a second time, the $500 monthly payments will expand also to roughly 37 individuals. The details of the initiative those earning the cash had the ability “to spend it on whatever they plan are necessary.”
