Chapitos And 28 Sinaloa Cartel Members Charged By US Justice Department

Federal prosecutors unveiled criminal charges against 28 members and associates of the Mexican Sinaloa Cartel including the three sons of former notorious drug lord “El Chapo” for fentanyl trafficking.

Attorney General Merrick Garland and Justice Department officials blamed the defendants for the fentanyl trafficking-related death of hundreds of thousands of Americans in the country.

Investigators say the accused that the three sons of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, sons also known as the Little Chapos or Chapitos were charged with fentanyl trafficking,  Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, Ovidio Guzmán López, and Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Sálazar have gained a reputation as the more violent and aggressive faction of the cartel than their father El Chapo.

Furthermore, the “Chapitos” network has also promoted the purchase of the precursor chemicals of fentanyl from China, manufactured the deadly narcotic in Mexico, and then worked to transport the substance into America. Four people from Chinese and one Guatemalan national were accused of supplying fentanyl ingredients to Mexico’s powerful Sinaloa cartel.

The FBI wants the four Chinese nationals caught and is offering a $1 million reward, by bringing them into custody to face charges in the US will probably be challenging. On Friday, the Treasury Department also declared sanctions against two Chinese companies for their role in supplying the precursor chemicals.

Once manufactured, the investigators allege the cartel used a network of cars, tunnels, aircraft, and couriers to bring the fentanyl into the United States, despite knowing the narcotic could kill many Americans.

According to the Justice Department, El Chapo’s sons, Ivan Guzman Salazar, Alfredo Guzman Salazar, and Ovidio Guzman Lopez,  allegedly are scoring hundreds of millions of dollars via fentanyl trafficking in the US.

Other charged individuals include operators of secret laboratories in Mexico where fentanyl is produced, firearms dealers who assist the Sinaloa Cartel arm its security, and money launderers who financed the operations. 8 of the 24 charged, are in custody globally. The US government will attempt to extradite the, to face charges in the US, according to the attorney general.

Federal Officials Detailed Chapitos’ Gruesome And Cruel Practices

On Friday, Federal officials outlined Chapitos’ criminal practices aimed at extending their power and amassing a grander fortune from testing the potency of the fentanyl they reportedly produced on inmates to feeding victims of their brutality to tigers to threaten civilians.

According to the Justice Department, between August 2021 and August 2022, an estimated 107,735 people passed away due to drug overdoses in the United States, two-thirds primarily from fentanyl.

About 200 individuals die every day from fentanyl poisoning and Garland said that Sinaloa Cartels are responsible for increased fentanyl trafficking in the US. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) confiscated approximately 50 million pills possessed with fentanyl-laced in 2002, more than doubling the number seized the year prior, the Justice Department said.

Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador controversially claimed last month, that the deadly narcotics are neither made nor consumed in his country but Americans are to blame for the totality of the epidemic.

Garland declared that officials from Justice Department together with the Mexican government met on Thursday, and the two countries restored their dedication to working together in fighting against firearms and fentanyl trafficking.
