On March 22, an injured worker filed a lawsuit against the INEOS Phenol plant in Pasadena, Texas, according to court documents.
INEOS Plant Explosion
The lawsuit filed by the employee claims appalling negligence and is desiring punitive damages on behalf of the INEOS plant during the explosion that went one individual injured and hospitalized.
Arturo Jimenez the complainant claimed that he was at the INEOS plant when the explosion threw him onto the ground. Abc13 news stated that the lawsuit indicates that Jimenez and his coworkers “immediately tried to flee from the incident but learned they were trapped inside due to various exits not being opened.”
Harris County Commissioner Adrian Garcia updated the incident stating that the expanded on the cause and described the blast as a “bleve explosion”. Moreover, a tanker bearing liquid petroleum gas was moving the chemical to storage via a hose.
As a result, something went wrong, causing the explosion at the INEOS plant. Investigators later determined that during the transfer of the chemical, it developed a leak in one of the tankers. According to the lawsuit, following the initial blast, “subsequent explosions” caused Jimenez subject to additional shock waves and significant heat.
Jimenez’s Attorney Said That The Explosion Traumatized People
Jimenez’s attorney Kurt Arnold, says this happens too frequently in the community and workers are traumatized by it because everyone is afraid of a secondary explosion. Arnold also stated that explosions causing Chemical plants occurred in their community often during mass casualty events, and injuries incurred during the initial blast are usually exacerbated as employees escape the facility.

INEOS plant company Friday is not immediately available for comment according to abc13 partners Houston Chronicle.
