The White House confirmed that the first lady will attend the event, which is scheduled for May 6th, and the President expressed his desire to meet with King Charles in the UK at a future date.
Reports had earlier emerged that President Biden would not attend the coronation, but US officials downplayed the possibility, pointing out that no US president has attended a British monarch’s coronation in the past.
The coronation, which is set to be a solemn religious service as well as an occasion for celebration and pageantry, will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby. Buckingham Palace had earlier announced the event earlier this year, which will mark the first coronation in nearly 70 years, as King Charles’ mother, Queen Elizabeth II, was crowned in June 1953.
