This week, Christmas came so early for the staff of Maryland school districts as they are set to receive a one-time direct bonus.
Marylands One-time $1,000 Bonus
Anne Arundel County Public Schools is giving its employees a bonus of $1,000 on Friday, intended as an Employee Appreciation Bonus that received the full backing of the Board of Education.
AACPS district stated that the bonus would be distributed to all permanent employees by Dec. 16 and will be pro-rated based on an employee’s full-time equivalent. Dr. Mark Bedell superintendent of the School sent a message to AACPS staff, quoting “No school system can be great without the outstanding people,”. The money AACPS saved from vacancies it encountered throughout the school system will not need to ask for any additional funding to cover these bonuses, and Bedell himself will not accept the bonus as well.
Additional Benefits for the Employee
Employees also had an additional healthcare premium holiday on Dec. 28, in which no healthcare premiums will be deducted from the staff’s money on that day. The current balance of the school system’s healthcare fund makes it possible for the holiday.
As reported by HeadTopics, teachers are also set to receive a benefit from the Certified Salary Schedule, which will be added to their salaries by $3,471.81 yearly, providing a 5.89% pay rise for the current school year.
