When Did Eva Marcille and Michael Sterling Filed Their Divorce?
In October 2018, the Real Housewives of Atlanta alumna and the lawyer married in an Atlanta ceremony.
According to documents obtained by PEOPLE, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star, 38, filed for divorce from the lawyer on March 23, stating that their marriage is “irretrievably broken.”
“This has been one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever had to make, but sometimes life takes you in unexpected directions,” Marcille tells PEOPLE exclusively. “Our children are still our top priority, and the eight and a half years we’ve spent together will be remembered fondly; we ask that you respect our privacy at this time.”

What Did Eva Marcille’s Attorney wrote in the filing of their divorce?
Marcille’s attorneys wrote in the filing that the couple married on Oct. 7, 2018, and that they “are currently living in a bona fide state of separation.”
They have three children: Michael Sterling, Jr., 4, who was born in 2018, and Maverick Sterling, 3. Sterling is also a father figure to Marcille’s previous relationship with ex Kevin McCall’s daughter Marley Rae.
The former America’s Next Top Model contestant and The Young and the Restless actress is seeking legal and primary custody of their children, as well as child support, “care and maintenance,” and medical expenses.
Marcille requests that the court grant her a “equitable division” of the assets she and Sterling acquired during their marriage, as well as her own separate property. She also wants their debt “equitably divided.”
Sterling hasn’t been seen on Marcille’s Instagram since she posted a photo of him on a yacht earlier this year.
She used a sunflower emoji as her caption.
Sterling’s last photo with Marcille was posted on Valentine’s Day. She’s sitting on his lap in the photo, laughing and smiling with him.
He referred to her as “my forever Valentine” in the caption.
“I am so in love with you that there isn’t anything else,” he added. Happy St. Valentine’s Day. #thesterlings”
Marcille and Sterling married on an episode of the Bravo series that aired in March 2019.
The couple was overcome with emotion as they exchanged their vows in front of 220 family and friends.
Marcille’s RHOA co-stars NeNe Leakes, Kandi Burruss, Cynthia Bailey, Porsha Williams, Shamari DeVoe, Tanya Sam, and Marlo Hampton were overcome with emotion as well.
“I promise to love you unconditionally, unrelentingly, comfortingly, and eternally,” Sterling said in his vows. “I promise you not only this present love, but future love. The future love that can’t predict the unpredictability of life but is prepared to withstand the hardships, pains, and struggles.”
“Michael, you’re my safe place. In a world that is often disappointing, you give me hope. Learning to love the biggest part of me, my daughter Marley, holding my truth and my fragility firmly in your hands, and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I was designed for you. Our bond is unbreakable and our love is pure,” Marcille said during her vows.
