Prior to a potential 2024 GOP presidential primary debate, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for not responding to former President Trump’s criticisms.

In a radio interview with Fox News, Chris Christie stated that he “wasn’t surprised” to see DeSantis shift recently to take a firmer stance against the former president, who announced his reelection campaign just after the midterm elections. DeSantis has hinted he could run for the White House in 2024 but has not formally announced a bid.

“I believe that it refutes the notion that Donald Trump can be disregarded or avoided, as has been suggested by some. That’s probably not only physically impossible, but it’s also awful strategy, in my opinion,” Chris Christie remarked.

“You have to interact, you know. The man served as the US’s president in the past. He is currently the favorite to win the Republican nomination. And if you plan to run, you’ll need to interact with the front-runner.

In a recent interview with Fox Nation’s Piers Morgan, the Florida governor positioned the two as having distinct leadership styles by dismissing Trump’s name-calling and said it’s “not important” to be “fighting with people on social media.”

“I still believe [DeSantis] is trying to be funny about what he’s saying about the former president, you know, kind of have it both ways. I don’t think there’s any way to avoid facing and engaging with the front-runner, but we’ll see how he behaves moving forward if he enters the race, Chris Christie added.

Trump, on the other hand, has been outspoken in his criticism of DeSantis, who has consistently ranked as one of the top candidates in a prospective GOP primary despite the fact that he hasn’t officially launched his campaign.

Chris Christie is also thinking about running and stated on Sunday that he would decide within the next 60 days whether to do so.
