Authorities in Mississippi are looking for the remains of a woman whose husband facing charges of murder and arson in connection with her abduction.

The defendant, 41-year-old Terry Lynn Smith, is accused of murdering his wife, 27-year-old Jamie Smith, before incinerating her car. He has been charged with capital murder and second-degree arson.

Jamie Smith was last seen on August 8th, 2020, at her home in Tippo, MS, according to local law enforcement. Detectives later discovered her car had been torched, and evidence of accelerant was detected at the scene. Terry Lynn Smith’s residence was searched, and evidence linking him to the crime was discovered. Now, Terry, the husband, is facing charges of murder.

Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, Ebony Owens, 36, went missing on Wednesday afternoon, which initiated a missing person inquiry. Deputies discovered a burned 2015 Acura TXL belonging to Owens in Edwards, Mississippi, and a license plate located nearby.

The inquiry has been shifted to a suspected murder, and her husband, 36-year-old Michael Owens, allegedly shot her at least once.

Michael Owens is in custody and has been charged with murder and arson. According to WLBT, deputies suspect the Acura was purposely set on fire.

Hinds County deputies also stated that a car was towed from an apartment complex that may be related to the crime.

Officials are undertaking search and recovery efforts along Mississippi’s Big Black River on Old Hwy 80 between Hinds and Warren County boundaries, where Ebony Owens’ corpse has not been found.

Several state government entities are helping with the search and recovery activities.
