Authorities arrested a Michigan man accused of being a serial Peeping Tom after he was caught on camera using a ladder to peer into the windows of multiple homes.
The Warren Police Department arrested a serial Peeping Tom for at least eight incidents in January and February. The 41-year-old man, whose name has not been released by police, was apprehended Thursday night while under surveillance.
The man was seen carrying a ladder and peering into the windows of unsuspecting homeowners and their families late at night and early in the morning.
One of the callers mentioned that the screen in her window had been removed. Another woman reported that the man tried to enter her daughter’s bedroom.
Police eventually narrowed down their suspect based on a Ring doorbell camera recording. The recording caught the Peeping Tom red-handed. He was seen carrying a ladder and climbing into the backyard of his next victim.
The recording was shared with police, and investigators reached out to neighboring cities. According to the Eastpointe Police Department, residents reported six similar incidents involving the same suspect carrying a ladder and peering into strangers’ windows.
The investigation has identified a 41-year-old Detroit man as the primary suspect.
During a surveillance operation late Thursday, Feb. 15, police allegedly observed the 41-year-old suspect walk to and from the backyard of a home in Oak Park, Michigan, before peering through a window. The man ran away from the house, hiding behind a bush.
Officers apprehended the peeping tom and arrested him. Following his arrest, police stated that the house contained several children under sixteen.
According to police, the suspect has a history of previous convictions, including felonies for home invasion and drug and weapon offenses. The Peeping Tom could also face charges in Macomb and Oakland counties, according to police. Because the Macomb County Prosecutor has not charged him, his name has not been released.
