Americans to Expect Up to $1,050 Direct Payments
Direct payments between $450 and $1,050 are going out next month but only those eligible can get the extra cash. According to a post by The US Sun, the current inflation rate is at 6.5 percent and most Americans are affected as food prices, rent, and gas continue to go up. To help with this, several states have implemented direct payments and rebate programs. Here are the list and amount being sent out.
1. COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS – $500
Cook County, Illinois selects participants via lottery and those who are chosen will get a $500 payment in February. This started in December 2022 and will be progressing for up to two years. The program has a $42 million budget which represents the largest guaranteed income pilot in the country. 3,250 individuals were chosen from a group of candidates with income below 250 percent of the federal poverty line.
2. EVANSTON, ILLINOIS – $500
Evanston, Illinois also adopted a guaranteed income program where 150 people will get $500 via debit card each month for 1 year which started going out in December 2022. They should have an income that was at or below 250 percent of the federal poverty line.
3. ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA – $500
Alexandria’s ARISE program gives 170 participants $500 a month for two years. The first payments will go out in the last week of January and another one goes out next month. To be eligible, Alexandria residents had to be at or below 50 percent of the Area’s Median Income.

4. MADISON, WISCONSIN – $500
Madison, Wisconsin is giving low-income families from The Madison Forward Fund. New payments will be available in February as monthly payments of $500 started going out last year in October 2022 and will continue for one year. 155 households were randomly chosen from 3,000 applications. Qualifications include that they must be Madison residents with at least one child and have a household income less than 200 percent of the federal poverty line.
5. CALIFORNIA – $1,050
Californians are to expect their Middle-Class Tax Refund in February for one-time payments between $200 and $1,050. Those who changed their address since filing their 2020 tax return will get a debit card mailed to them between January 30 and February 14.
6. IDAHO – $600
Idaho residents will get a one-time lump sum payment of $600 in February. The rebate was supposed to be sent out in September 2022 but payments will continue to be processed until March 2023 for late files or for those who had complications. They will get a minimum of $300 with joint filers receiving $600.
7. MASSACHUSETTS – $400
Chelsea, Massachusetts sent out its universal basic income program in December with payments of up to $400 to 700 residents.
