Food Security Equity Impact Fund: What is it?
The Food Security Equity Impact Fund was established in 2021 to support solutions to food scarcity within the communities. The fund helps food banks and their partners remove hindrances to food access and increases chances to access healthy and culturally-preferred nutrition. It seeks to establish and help community relationships and center people with lived experiences of hunger in creating a more equitable food system.
In 2022, 25 grants totaling nearly $10 million were awarded to partners and food banks in 22 states and Puerto Rico.
Does the Fund Support What Kind of Projects?
The fund has supported community-based actions that address systemic injustices that have led to long-term nutrition-related problems.
Why is Prioritizing Communities of Color Important?
According to internal research, hunger disproportionately impacts communities of color. Discriminative policies and routines, racial bigotry, and lack of access to economic aid and opportunities are all factors in the ever-rising food insecurity.
