52 Year-Old Woman From Florida Steals Dead Father’s Social Benefits
A 52-year-old woman from Florida pleaded guilty to stealing social security benefits from her deceased father. According to a published post by Smartnews, US Attorney Roger B. Handberg said Friday that Dawn Rae Dempsey, 52, of Beverly Hills, Florida admitted to thieving her deceased father’s social security benefits for over five years. In accordance with the reports from the Department of Justice, Dempsey’s father died in November 2015 but the defendant never told the SSA and RSI about his passing.

Living A Luxurious Life Off of Dead Father’s Benefits
During the date of December 3, 2015 to February 3, 2021 the defendant collected payments made to her father’s account and use it for her own benefit and living a life without limits. The SSA deposited a jaw-dropping amount of $112,611 into her father’s account across 63 payments which were admittedly used by the defendant.
The US Attorney’s Office stated that Dempsey also collected $167,000 from her father’s coast guard retirement benefits. The Department of Justice stated that Dempsey admitted to stealing the money after being confronted by investigators. As of this moment, Dempsey is scheduled for her sentencing hearing on March 9, 2023 and could face 10 years in federal prison for theft of government funds.
