Increased Social Disability Insurance
The estimated Social Security Disability benefit for a disabled person in 2022 who is receiving Social Security Disability Insurance was $1,358 per month. The Social Security Administration announced that it is expected to increase to $1,483 per month.
According to a published article in INVESTOPEDIA, the benefits are based on average lifetime earnings and not on household income or the severity of a person’s disability.
Moreover, the total amount that a disabled worker and their spouse can receive is about 150% to 180% of a disabled worker’s benefits. The following are eligible to receive the payments:
- spouse
- divorced spouse
- child
- disabled child
- and/or an adult child disabled before age 22

Social Security Benefits in 2023
The Social Security Benefits payable to disabled worker, their spouse, and one or more children in 2023 is $2,616. The amount has increased from 2,383 in 2022. Furthermore, the amount to be received is subject to changes annually based on the inflation rate.

It is also important to note that Social Security Disability Insurance should not be confused with Social Security Income. Social Security Disability Insurance comes from payroll deductions as required by the Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA).
