The Bad Mother From Florida
On Tuesday, a North Miami Beach mother named Jellies Baxter, 24 was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the North Miami Beach Police Department, officers responded to a call from Baxter confessing about stubbing her child which was the cause of death then the caller disconnected the line. The phone call occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on Dec. 27, and police arrived at a 1000 block of NE 163rd Street residence.
The Scene Of The Crime
Upon arriving at the apartment on Northeast 163rd Street and finding Baxter in the living room wearing her white robe, The dispatcher interviewed Baxter about what happened, she claimed that “she strangled her daughter first, but when that didn’t work, she stabbed her in the chest and neck causing her death.” Moreover, they also found the child on the ground next to the killing weapon Baxter used.
The motive for the killing was unsated, as Baxter refused to speak with police after being taken into custody, however, numerous neighbors reportedly told Salt Lake City Fox affiliate KSTU that Baxter had lately been “going through a terrible time financially” and claimed that her water had been cut off recently.
Baxter was being transported at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County where she is currently being held without bond, jail records show.
