$275K Pittsburgh Settlement With 2020 Protesters In East Liberty

The City of Pittsburgh has reached a $275,000 settlement with a group of protesters in East Liberty over George Floyd’s death who said they were arrested, hurt, offended, and traumatized by the police in 2020.

According to Trib the protest that was held in East Liberty that should be public safety turned violent, there are hundreds of police officers were deployed in the protest they said that the police deployed tear gas, explosives, and non-lethal weapons. This is the first-ever settlement reached $275,000 in the 2020 protest that happened in the city of Pittsburgh over the death of George Floyd. Floyd was a black Minneapolis man that was shot and killed by the police in 2020.

There are already 3 cases filed against the city of Pittsburgh for alleged police actions against the protester on May 30 and June 1, 2020.

$275K Pittsburgh Settlement To Floyd Protesters In East Liberty

One victim said that they were injured by the police, the other one said that he lost his eye after the police shot him with a sponge around, the last one also lost teeth and another one suffered a broken hand. The 2 remain active according to the court filings. However, the total settlement needs approval first by Pittsburgh City Council and Mayor Ed Gainey. The lawyers of the protesters said that they will not give comments until the City Council and the Mayor will work on this issue.
