Oklahoma The First State To Test SNAP Contactless Mobile Payments

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) selected The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) among 5 states to test the mobile contactless payments for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

It is known as the Food Stamp Program, they provide nutritional support to families and adults that have small incomes and also those people with disabilities.  They call this program the nation’s anti-hunger.

This latest technology will let SNAP customers pay for their groceries by tapping or scanning their mobile devices. According to USDA Deputy undersecretary for food, nutrition, and consumer services, Stacy Dean, this represents another step forward in the future of SNAP and many other programs embracing modern and innovative ways to improve our nation. Electronic wallet changes the way we pay for everything, including ordering food and groceries.

SNAP Contactless Mobile Payments To Test in Oklahoma

They are ensuring that the SNAP leverages one of the latest and modernized technologies to improve access to benefits, prevent fraud and provide a quality experience for the families it serves. OKDHS Financial Administrator Tom Pennington said that Oklahoma is excited to be the first state to utilize SNAP and its benefits. He said that it will truly help the citizen by protecting them from the risk of fraud through multi-level authentication. He also added that they are ready and proud to dedicate the resources and staff required to make this SNAP happen and to give better service to customers.
