A Former Georgia Detention Officer Was Charged With Improper Sexual Contact With An Inmate

Police in Georgia fired and charged a detention officer after he had a sexual relationship with an inmate.

In Fulton County Jail, an inappropriate video of Kawana Jenkins was discovered on a phone.

After being accused of inappropriate sexual behavior with an inmate, a former Georgia detention officer was fired and charged.

Kawana Jenkins, 36, faces two counts of inappropriate sexual contact, two counts of reckless conduct, and five counts of oath violation by a public officer.

Jenkins is also charged with two counts of inmate cruelty and one count of providing a prohibited item to an inmate without authorization.

The inappropriate behavior was recorded on a contraband cellphone, according to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers discovered the phone during a search of the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta.

Officials fired Jenkins and arrested her after identifying her in the video. Jenkins had been a deputy with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office since 2019.

Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat stated that he is dedicated to holding all employees accountable and being open and transparent with the public.

“The actions of this single individual do not reflect the men and women of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff Labat said in a statement.

“The vast majority of employees should be commended for their integrity, commitment to service, and the work they do on a daily basis,” the statement continued.
