The guaranteed basic income pilot programs have been implemented in the different levels of government in an attempt to help financially struggling Americans.
Guaranteed Basic Income Pilot Programs
Millions of Americans around the country continue to experience the impact and effect of the pandemic and the soaring inflation rate. To address these problems, officials in the different levels of government implemented guaranteed basic income pilot programs and dole out other financial assistance.
In a published article in USA Today, a study from the Center on Poverty and Social Policy at Columbia University found that guaranteed basic income pilot programs by giving as little as $250 a month have helped reduce poverty by 40 percent.
Additionally, the Mayors for a Guaranteed Income began advocating for guaranteed basic income pilot programs during the wake of the pandemic at the local, state, and federal levels. Likewise, there is no string attached to this program once you qualify.

Will there be More Guaranteed Basic Income Pilot Programs?
There are more guaranteed basic income pilot programs implemented around the country today. It includes the following:
- In New Mexico, Santa Fe LEAP provided $400 to young parents who made less than 200% of the federal poverty level and wanted to complete their education.
- In Los Angeles, Basic Income Guaranteed: Los Angeles Economic Assistance Pilot, also known as BIG: LEAP is providing 3,200 people with $1,000 a month for 12 months.
- In Chicago, the Chicago Resilient Communities Pilot is providing 5,000 people with $500 a month and the Cook County Promise Guaranteed Income program is also giving $500 per month to 3,250 people.
This has been proven an effective way to reduce the poverty rate in the country. Furthermore, there is no federal funding yet for the guaranteed basic income pilot programs but its source of funds is through philanthropic donors and the American Rescue Plan Act.
