A Florida father has been arrested in the death of his 13-year-old son after being killed by a speeding 100 mph motorcycle during an illegal street race.
Father Arrested After Son Died By A Motorcycle Speeding 100 Mph
Florida police charged the father of a 13-year-old boy with child neglect after his son was killed when a speeding motorcycle going 100 mph crashed as they watched illegal street racing, according to reports. Fox station WTVT in Tampa reported that Johnny Julio Martin took his son, Ethan, to watch drivers illegally race up and down city streets between 28th Street and 110th Ave in St. Petersburg, Florida on Jan. 28.
According to St. Petersburg Police, during the overnight hours, Ethan cross 28th Street but walked in the path where a speeding motorcycle at 100 mph, got hit. The 13-year-old was instantly killed and another bystander was reportedly injured.
Father Charged With Child Neglect
The boy’s father, Martin, was arrested and facing felony child neglect and street racing as a spectator, he was booked into the Pinellas County jail with a $10,000 bail. A week before the fatal crash, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced a crackdown on street racing.
In fact, during Tampa’s Gasparilla on weekend, on Jan. 28, deputies with the county captured 14 individuals for illegal street racing. Since then, 24 individuals have been arrested for participating in reckless driving.
