Madison Brooks, a budding college sophomore who was fatally hit by a car after an alleged sexual assault, is being remembered as a pure-hearted adventure-seeker who “lived every day to the fullest.”
Brooks, 19, was killed by a car near her Baton Rouge, Louisiana, campus in the early morning of January 15, 2023. She was raped while intoxicated shortly before being hit, the police said.
According to a recently published obituary, Brooks, originally from Covington, Louisiana, had recently been accepted into LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication. She was in her second-year student and was an active and beloved member of the Alpha Phi sorority.
The sorority previously revealed that Brooks posthumously contributed several organs.
Moreover, Brooks was a graduate of St. Scholastica Academy. She was on the honor roll and was involved in cheerleading and several other programs.
Instead of giving flowers to the family, the public donates to The Madison Brooks Foundation to honor her life and legacy.
A spokesperson told Fox News for the East Baton Rogue Parish Sheriff’s Office that the person who hit Brooks will not be facing criminal liabilities and was not impaired, and he immediately contacted emergency personnel.
Investigators reported last week that they had arrested four men after two had allegedly raped an intoxicated Brooks while the other two were present and inside a vehicle before dropping her off before the accident.
Two suspects, Kaivon Washington, 18, and an unidentified 17-year-old, have been charged with third-degree rape. Two others, Casen Carver, 18, and Everett Lee, 28, were also arrested.
In the state of Louisiana, third-degree rape involves sexual intercourse, which occurs without the lawful consent of the victim. Prosecutors have reportedly said they are seeking upgraded charges against the suspects.
