In two months eligible Americans can claim up to $500 to $2,500 payments after being victims of a cyberattack.
Payment Settlement For Cyberattack Victims
The San Andreas Regional Center (SARC) settled a class action lawsuit after plaintiffs claim it failed to secure consumer data through reasonable cybersecurity benchmarks. As a result of the center’s negligence, the class action contends that consumers now face the risk of fraud and another data misuse. The payment settlement benefits consumers who received a notice from SARC after a breach compromised in 2021 data.
The SARC is a medical system with locations in Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Benito, and Monterey. The centers offer specialized services to disabled individuals. Although San Andreas Regional Center hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to settle these allegations.
Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive reimbursement of up to $500 for ordinary expenses and $2,500 for extraordinary expenses. Ordinary expenses covered by the settlement include bank fees, communication charges, credit expenses, and up to three hours of lost time reimbursed at a rate of $20 per hour. Extraordinary expenses include unreimbursed monetary losses resulting from fraud or identity theft. All claimed expenses must be documented to qualify for reimbursement.
Who’s Eligible?
Those Consumers who received a data breach notice from San Andreas Region Center informing them that their information may have been compromised in the 2021 data breach. Will receive the payment settlement. $500 for ordinary expense reimbursement and $2,500 for extraordinary expense reimbursement.
The cutoff for exclusion and objection is March 13, 2023. The final approval hearing for the payment settlement is scheduled for August 2, 2023. To receive settlement benefits, class members should submit a Claim Form by August 2, 2023.
