A New York woman filed a lawsuit against Mike Tyson stating that the latter raped her in the early 1990s.
$5 Million Lawsuit Against Mike Tyson filed In New York
The former heavyweight boxing champion is now facing a lawsuit filed by a woman in Albany, New York accusing him of raping her sometime in the early 1990s. She is suing for $5 million and said that Tyson raped her in a limousine after she met him at an Albany nightclub. She also reported that she suffered from physical, psychological, and emotional injuries in the years since then.
The affidavit does not have a confirmed date of the incident and only accounted that it happened in the early 1990s. This also happened around the same time a beauty pageant contestant Desiree Washington said Tyson raped her in Indianapolis. He was convicted for this on Feb. 10, 1992, and served three years in prison.
New York’s Adult Survivor’s Act Made the Lawsuit Possible
According to a published post by Fox News, the lawsuit in New York was filed under the state’s Adult Survivors Act. This gives sexual assault victims a year to lawsuits over assaults that happened years or even decades ago. The incident happened when the victim got in Tyson’s limousine and the boxer immediately started touching and kissing her. The victim repeatedly asked Tyson to stop but continued with the assault and violently raped her.
The woman wants to stay anonymous as publicizing her name would certainly cause her mental harm, harassment, ridicule, or personal embarrassment. Her attorney Darren Seilback said that his office did not simply take the woman at her word but investigated her allegations and determined that they are highly credible.
