Businesses Impacted by Storms Are Eligible For Emergency Tax Relief

Governor Gavin Newsom said business owners and taxpayers affected by California’s winter storms can now access emergency tax relief from late payment interest and penalties.

Those Californians who are impacted by winter storms, and experience flooding, power outages, and other storm-related hardships may request up to an additional three months to file their tax returns. Taxpayers with return due dates between January 4, 2023, and January 31, 2023, who are granted relief will not have to pay interest or penalties if they are unable to file their forms and pay taxes and fees by the original due date.

Here’s How To Request Relief

Impacted taxpayers can request relief:

  • On the CDTFA website.

  • By email at California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, PO Box 942879, MIC 35, Sacramento, CA 94279.

  • Visit personally the field offices.

  • By phone at 1-800-400-7115 Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 5 pm (Pacific Time), excluding state holidays.

Consumers can also reach CDTFA to update account information, modify an address or contact information, request replacement copies of CDTFA tax records, or ask questions about their accounts.

In addition to the State of Emergency Tax Relief webpage, information regarding relief requests is available in different languages online, via videos in English and Spanish, and on CDTFA’s Online Services webpage.
