The Los Angeles County sheriff praised the two civilians bystanders who disarmed away from the Monterey Park shooting suspect before he could carry out a second attack.
Two Brave Heros
On Saturday evening, two unnamed civilians in Alhambra wrestled what Luna described as a “magazine-fed semiautomatic assault handgun” with an “extended large capacity magazine” from the suspect, who then fled the scene.
The suspect killed 10 and injured others in Monterey Park, but Alhambra had no reported injuries. California state Sen. Susan Rubio (D) also hailed the two Alhambra community members at the presser, saying “we would be standing here with a lot more tragedy” if not for their heroic actions.
“We hope honor to the two civilians at some point shortly,” Rubio added.
The Monterey Park shooting Incident
On Sunday, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna lauded the two civilians as “heroes” at a new press conference. Luna also said that the gunman who carried out a mass shooting in Monterey Park, California, on Saturday night found a .308 caliber rifle, with hundreds of rounds of loose ammo, and some items that led identified him building homemade firearm suppressors.
Moreover, Police recovered 42 shell casings and a large capacity magazine at the dance studio that was the site of the shooting, Investigators also found a handgun in the gunman’s white van, which was registered to the suspect.
The Suspect’s Identity And Motive Of The Shoot Out
The suspect was identified as Huu Can Tran 72-year-old and was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a van in Torrance, California. Despite the newfound evidence, authorities are still uncertain of what motivated the gunman, Huu Can Tran, an elderly Chinese immigrant described as having an interest in dance and a hot temper. Additionally, Tran had a limited criminal history, including an arrest in 1990 for unlawful possession of a firearm.
