Americans in Virginia city are set to receive a $500 payment every month with no strings attached for two years.
The No Strings Attached Payment For Virginia City
Alexandria, Virginia, is giving away no string-attached money as part of its Recurring Income for Success and Equity program. However, only 170 recipients will be lucky to be selected for the initiative and can use the money on whatever they want, there are no restrictions. Mayor Justin Wilson said, “We provide financial support to people and families so they can make decisions on how to best fulfill their daily needs.”
The program is dedicated to helping residents financially and evolving the city’s cash assistance programs. The city claimed that the Guaranteed income pilot program has a demonstrable effect on reducing poverty and economic inequity.
The qualifying participants will determine for themselves the budget strategies that will most benefit them. The city’s program, known as ARISE, is an attempt to explore a radical new approach to ensuring that individuals have everything they need to make decisions that promote their well-being.
When Will The Payment Be Distributed?
The program’s coordinator Julie Mullen told the Washington Examiner that The first payments could be sent out as soon as this coming February, But that’s only if all 170 participants are onboarded by then. If not, there could be a delay. All of the recipients were randomly selected from a pool of applicants on December 13, if any of the participants withdraw from the program, the city will select a replacement from the applicant pool.
The application was open from October 31 to November 9, to apply, city residents needed to make 50 percent or less of Alexandria’s median income, which changes depending on how many people live in a given household. Additionally, for a household of one, applicants must earn less than $4,154 each month and the yearly income limit is $49,890. That increase to $4,746 and $56,950 for a family of two people.
