Menatosa police chased a high-speed and finally caught six men attending the funeral of a 19-year-old who was shot dead at the Mall of America in a shooting that unfolded during the nation’s busiest shopping season last month.
During Johntae Hudson’s Funeral
Police say they started tailing several suspects when they spotted a gun Friday morning during the funeral of Johntae Hudson, according to Minneapolis Star Tribune news. Hudson was shot dead at the Mall of America just before the Christmas holiday.
Officers were present at the funeral to provide a safe, secure environment for those mourning when they officer noticed a man in possession of a handgun and another man wanted by investigators for a non-fatal shooting on December, 14 were in attendance.
They did not confront the two at the funeral service but kept tabs on them as they left the cemetery in an SUV with five other men. According to police, the vehicle pulled into a gas station, where officers attempted to stop it. One man jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to run away before officers captured him. The SUV took off with the two men from the funeral still inside. The pursuit ultimately came to an end in the Dinkytown area and later found the vehicle abandoned.
The Teens Are Taken Into Custody
All five teens were taken into custody at Ramsey County Jail on various charges. According to authorities, the 18-year-old man was the one allegedly seen with the gun at the funeral the two 19-year-olds were arrested with weapons. The mall of America shot-out suspect was not found and is still wanted by police.
Police claimed Hudson was killed after a gunfight in the Bloomington mall’s Nordstrom store. An argument between two groups of young men led to a shooting. As of the moment, authorities forced the nation’s largest shopping center to lock down due to the shooting incident.
