New Mexicans To Submit Tax Returns To Qualify For $1,000 Relief Payment

To be eligible for a relief payment, New Mexicans must file their tax returns by the end of May. Nearly 2.4 million rebates had been given to New Mexicans as of August 15, 2022. Relief payments totaling $20 million were budgeted and will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

Refunds for taxpayers who have already filed their 2021 tax returns will be distributed via direct deposit. If applicable, you will receive a paper check if your banking details have changed since you filed. The deadline for New Mexicans to submit their 2021 taxes is now May 31, 2023.

Are You Eligible?

New Mexico is giving away two rebates. Married couples filing joint returns, heads of household, and surviving spouses with incomes under $150,000 are all eligible to receive $500 under the first rebate. With an income under $75,000, single filers and married people filing separately will receive $250.

Another Round of Rebates

The second rebate is for single filers, and married people filing separately receive a $500 refund. Heads of households, joint filers, and surviving spouses will all receive $1,000. Taxpayers who filed their 2021 personal income tax return will automatically receive rebates.

According to a published post by The US Sun, individuals who have not yet submitted their 2021 New Mexico Personal Income Tax returns and who are not listed as dependents on another taxpayer’s return have until May 31, 2023, to do so.

Othe Rebate Programs

Individual filers in Colorado will also receive a tax rebate of $750, while joint filers will receive $1,500. People in Colorado have already received tax refunds thanks to the Colorado Cash Back program.

Refunds should arrive by January 31 for those who requested an extension and filed their tax returns by October 17. Californians will also receive money from the Middle-Class Tax Refund program. The initiative, which provides citizens with $1,050 payments to help with inflation, has already benefited more than 25 million people in the state.
