Three Monthly Direct Payments Between $200 and $500 Will Be Given Out To Americans Starting In January

Starting in January, a few groups of beneficiaries will receive their first round of monthly direct payments worth up to $500. They come as Cook County, Illinois has delivered the first batch of its universal basic income payments, which is benefiting 3,250 residents in total.

The Cook County Government posted a statement on Thursday noting that the cash will “reach participants in the coming days.” For most of the upcoming UBI programs, you are required to meet strict requirements, which usually include having a low income.

These are the cities sending out monthly payments in January – but keep in mind that some of these aren’t the exact dates. Firstly, Chelsea, Massachusetts – up to $400 Last week, the city began the second phase of its UBI program, giving another 700 residents monthly payments of up to $400.

Throughout the first phase of Chelsea Eats in Massachusetts, a total of 2,000 households got monthly payments from November 2020 through August 2021. Nonetheless, the second stint of the program will only offer payment to residents for only three months.

You need to be a Chelsea resident earning less than 30 percent of the Area Median Income to qualify, which is pretty much the same as the last round. The thresholds are going to depend on the number of people present in homes, which is the following.

• Household of one: $29,450

• Household of two: $33,650

• Household of three: $37,850

• Household of four: $42,050

• Household of five: $45,450

• Household of six: $48,800

• Household of seven: $52,150

According to a published post by The US Sun, the benefit they will get monthly also depends on the size of their family. Households of one will get $200, households of two will get $300, and households of three or more get $400 monthly, for example. Those who are eligible can apply online on Friday, January 6 at noon. Those that are selected will have their money loaded onto a debit card.

While the exact date hasn’t been provided yet, the manager of Chelsea city, Tom Ambrosino, previously said to the U.S. Sun: “I expect the first monetary distribution in late January.” The payments will be delivered in March 2023. Secondly, Coachella, California – $400

The applications ended on Friday, November 11, and are no longer being accepted. On Tuesday, December 27, those who get approved will be notified. The city said eligible participants should be expected to get the first batch of their monthly payments sometime in January.

Lastly, Alexandria, Virginia – $500 per month In October, the ARISE program in Alexandria, Virginia launched, which will give 170 people a monthly payment worth $500 for two years. The qualification will depend on the income of Alexandria residents. For example, it must be 50% or below of the Area Median Income. $49,850 is the threshold for a household of one.

In addition, applicants must be at least 18 years old or above. The city has already stopped accepting applications this November. Those who are selected will be getting the notification in December by phone, email, and text, assuming they were provided on the application, stated by the program officials.

And so, the first round of monthly checks is going to be given out during the last week of January. There’s also another program that could launch in January. Moreover, it’s also worth mentioning Rochester, New York’s UBI program. 175 residents will get $500 monthly cash for a year.

To qualify, income must be at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. It’s not clear if there’s going to be an application process, but a Rochester spokesperson said to The Center Square that the program is set to launch in early 2023. Although, it isn’t guaranteed to happen in January.
