$5,000 and $15,000 Bonus Checks Available to Americans
A US city tries to attract new residents as huge bonus checks that can be worth up to $15,000 are available to Americans. Memphis, Tennessee, is the latest city hoping to draw in talent with monetary assistance to relocate.
According to a published post by The US Sun, bonuses ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 are currently being offered as the city leaders work to recruit police officers and firefighters. According to Route Fifty, Memphis has seen its resignation rate climb by 40% between 2020 and 2021.
Employees left the area to apply for jobs in the private sector, which left the city scrambling to fill its ranks. Officials in the City responded by offering qualified police hires $15,000 sign-on bonuses and $10,000 in relocation assistance. Bonus and relocation payments for firefighters are $5,000 each.

For the payments to be received, the program is required to have new hires stay with the city for at least four years, otherwise, they will have to pay back part of the money. Alex Smith, the city’s chief human resources officer, said to Route Fifty “We are in a very unique labor market right now,”.
“Every HR leader that I’m talking to is wrestling with this idea and what to do around this higher resignation rate .” The money comes from the leftover funds from the American Rescue Plan Act.
Memphis received $ 161 million from the federal government in the plan, and to support the bonus program, the city set aside $ 13.5 million over three years. Since announcing the bonuses, Memphis has brought on 160 firefighters and 180 police officers. “From my standpoint, it’s an effective tool to help us get people at the door,” Smith stated.
