54-Year-Old Alex Murdaugh Charged With Murdering Wife and Son
COLUMBIA, South Carolina – The disgraced attorney, Alex Murdaugh, charged with murdering his wife and son, was indicted on Friday by a South Carolina grand jury on nine counts of tax evasion. And he is being pursued in the face of her death, in addition to the series of allegations that have been made over a year ago.
Prosecutors stated that Murdow, 54, stole about $7 million from his legal firm, although he earned about $14 million in nine years as an attorney.
Through the 2011 to 2019 tax returns, the grand jury indictment made millions of dollars from the law firm that the family started a century ago. However, he also had a volatile income, stealing about half of the money he earned from Peters, Murdaugh, Parker, Eltzroth, and Detrick.
The latest indictment brings the total number of accusations against the dishonorable lawyer to over 100.
Murdaugh is set to go on trial in late January for shooting dead his wife, Maggie, and his son Paul at his family’s home in Colton County in June 2021. Prosecutors said he would seek life imprisonment if convicted.
According to a published post by NBC News, Murdaugh was involved in the murder, Murdaugh’s attorney adamantly denies it, but the court acknowledges his role in stealing money from clients.
On Friday, nine charges of tax evasion were added to Murdaugh’s charges. Prosecutors said he escaped nearly $487,000 in state income taxes. If convicted, he faces up to his five-year imprisonment.

There have been about 20 waves since September 2021, according to the indictment. Most of Murdaugh’s other accusations involve stealing $8.8 million in legal funds from seriously injured clients and families of those who died at work in shipwrecks, as well as drug cartels and money-laundering schemes, the officials said.
Conforming to Friday’s indictment, Murdaugh reported about $14 million in the company’s adjusted gross income through nine years of tax returns. But prosecutors said he had about $14 million used in the company’s bank accounts. He said he stole $7 million and failed to pay taxes on his illegal gains.
In Mordaugh’s life, he reportedly made $5.3 million in 2013 after making $2.4 million the year before. However, subsequent tax returns showed that his legitimate income had dried up. Murdaugh said he earned just $219,000 in 2017 and just $1.6 million over the next two years, the indictment says.
Under the indictment says, Murdaugh stole about $3.8 million in 2019, on the unreported side of the ledger. Also, in most years, Murdaugh stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from his company firm.
